Keels Way
Project Scope: Layered Interior Renovation
Location: Westlake Village, CA
Overview and Opportunity
To call this client eclectic would be an understatement. From the start, there was a clear love for color, especially blues, creams, ochres, and terra cottas. The opportunity with this home was to honor that personality while creating a sense of balance and flow. Rather than approaching the project all at once, the design unfolded in phases, allowing each completed space to inform the next and creating a home that evolved naturally over time.
The first opportunity was the compact kitchen, which felt closed in and lacked light. Opening the space allowed for a brighter, more welcoming environment that could serve as the foundation for the rest of the home.
Results
The kitchen was opened and refreshed with white cabinetry and ocean green countertops, setting a light and uplifting environment. In the adjacent dining room, we embraced the client’s love of color and pattern with bold wallpaper, vintage ceiling tiles, and a statement chandelier, creating a space that feels expressive and collected.
In the living room, the fireplace was simplified and refined with large Carrara marble tiles, allowing it to feel peaceful. The bathroom renovation incorporated the existing travertine floor tile into the shower to extend its warmth throughout the space. Blue-painted terra cotta tiles were introduced for contrast, creating a striking balance between cool and warm tones.
To let these layered finishes shine without competing, the home was completed with crisp white walls and black fixtures. The result is a space that feels personal, and thoughtfully composed..
